The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Promises Big Changes- Red Herring or More Death Ahead?

A new poster from The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro was revealed, to be displayed at IMAX capable cinemas, and the image pays homage to the famous cover from the “Death of Gwen Stacy” story.

Rumors about the death of the character [in the movie universe] have been floating around for some time now, mostly because the story line is one of the most impacting for the hero in the comics. Mary Jane Watson was going to appear in the story, but her appearance was postponed for the third movie in the series.

The poster says “Secrets have a cost. The truth does too” and promises a turning point in the life of Spider-Man. See the comparison below between the movie poster and the original cover of The Amazing Spider-Man # 121, from 1973.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Mark Webb. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone return to play Spider-Man and girlfriend Gwen Stacy, respectively. Newcomers to the series include Jamie Foxx as electric villain, Electro. Dane DeHaan as Peter’s childhood friend Harry Osborn. Both characters (a pre-mutated Max Dillon(Electro)) are present in the film poster. Chris Cooper will portray Osborn’s father, the industrialist Norman Osborn. The Rhino, Felicia Hardy (Black Cat),


At the end of last year, Sony Pictures announced two spin off movies featuring Venom and the the Sinister Six. Sinister Six, with Drew Goddard (Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) directing, is said to be a “redemption story” of Spider-Man’s greatest foes. Spider-Man Andrew Garfield is contracted for three movies. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out in theaters May 2^nd. 

Cue Theme Music: Snoopy Will Dance on the Big Screen

Sure, everyone has heard by now that Ben Affleck is the new Batman…And that Avengers 2 is coming. With the deluge of superhero movies by the big 2, it is easy to forget the little guys. But fear not! One beagle and his owner are returning to take over the silver screen!

The blockhead Charlie Brown first appeared in the Li’l Folks comic strip in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Charles M. Schulz then started a different strip starring Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy and the Peanuts gang. It ran daily for 50 years from 1950-2000. Fantagraphics Books is currently publishing the all-encompassing collection  The Complete Peanuts. Boom Studios is also publishing a monthly Peanuts comic book.

Snoopy and Charlie Brown and the Peanuts are some of the best known characters worldwide, and for good reason. Charlie Brown has been a staple among television specials, the most notable being: A Charlie Brown Christmas(1965), It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown(1966), and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving(1973) all still played annually on ABC. Snoopy and the gang are mascots of MetLife insurance. They have stared in not one but two musicals: “Snoopy” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, both still popular and performed around the world. In 2015, Blue Sky will produce the fifth movie in the franchise. A Boy Named Charlie Brown(1969), Snoopy, Come Home (1972), Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown(1977) and Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown(and Don’t Come Back!!)(1980) were all traditionally animated but Peanuts(2015) will be done in CGI. Blue Sky has a very good track record with CGI animation with Rio, Ice Age, Epic and Robots under their belt. Take a look at the trailer below. Peanuts will be released in theatres November 6, 2015. 

X-Mania

Empire Magazine has released pictures of their 25 collectible covers for the month of March in celebration for Bryan Singer's return to unite the X-Men franchises with X-Men: Days of the Future Past. The seventh X-Men film (X-Men(2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand(2006), X-Men:Origins Wolverine (2009), X-Men: First Class(2011), and The Wolverine(2013)) but soon to be followed with its own sequel, again directed by Singer, X-Men : Apocalypse- to be released May 27th, 2016. X-Men: Days of the Future Past opens May 23rd in the US. Comic fans in France and Belgium are treated with an early release on  the 21st with the rest of Europe following suite on the 22nd. Be sure to stay after the credits are finished rolling as Marvel movies always include an extra special scene at the very end.

Aside from the seven X-Films, X-Men already stared on the small screen with four series(X-Men:The Animated Series(1992), X-Men:Evolution(2000), Wolverine and the X-Men(2008), and Marvel Anime:X-Men(2011) and a pilot-1989's Kitty Pryde and the X-Men. Many X-Men have had cameos in multiple marvel animated series. The uncanny mutants have countless video games, action figures, and of course...comic books. Their past has shone brightly since their creation in 1963 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, they will be mainstays for the future. Feeling nostalgic?
